![]() The Educational opportunities in the Navy are incredible. Every school attended, including basic training, is worth college credit. Basic Training satisfies most college requirements for Physical Education. Some sailors graduated their Class "A" schools with an Associates Degree or better.
Not to mention, they we're paid to go to school.
Tuition Assistance allows sailors to attend college courses while on active duty. A sailor can use up to $3500 / year for college.
There are also Programs established to allow a sailor to even attend courses while on a deployment (cruise), such as PACE (Program for Afloat College Education). College onboard ships, imagine that!
The Dantes program allows sailors to take SAT's, ACT's, CLEP, etc... at no cost. Compare that to $35-$40 for a civilian.
The Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB) is Guaranteed to every sailor for a current total of $19,008 for college. This does change from time to time reflecting the cost of living. It was only $10,000 back in 1990 when I joined.
The Navy College Fund is in addition to the MGIB. Provided you qualify, a sailor could receive as much as $50,000 in conjunction with the MGIB for college.
Active duty sailors can find all the info they need for college at the Navy College.
If the military just isn't for you, I've included some links that should help with attaining Scholarships and Financial Aid. Not Military related, so relax.
